Joola was created  in Germany in 1952 and has dominated the professional table tennis scene in
the United States for over 15 years. In 2019, Sport Squad, Inc., announced its acquisition of
JOOLA Tisch tennis GmbH. In 2022, JOOLA launched JOOLA Pickleball and immediately
entered the sport by shaking it up as the sponsor of pickleball world #1 Ben Johns and a partner
of USPPA. The Maryland based company is known for its table tennis and pickleball
equipment, accessories and apparel .  JOOLA’s Pickleball paddle product line offers paddles
for players of all skill levels and styles of play. They range from lightweight and maneuverable
paddles for players who prefer a finesse game to heavier, more powerful models for players
who prefer to play aggressively. In addition to offering these products for Pickleball players,
Joola also recently started producing Pickleball ball carts for Pickleball coaches and inventor for

Overview: The Joola Perseus is a joint venture with pro pickleball player Ben Johns. The thermoformed unibody paddle uses the new charged carbon surface technology coupled with a fully encased carbon fiber for power and stability. The unibody design is very sturdy and provides a great pop. This is Joola’s best paddle in our opinion.

Performance: The handle offers a tacky yet soft grip that absorbs sweat. Handle breakage seen in the Hyperion CFS, should not occur with the Perseus due to the unibody construction. Although, you may want to consider an overgrip. The 14 mm paddle has a swing weight of 112 and the 16mm paddle is 116. While the spin is good, it is not quite on par with other thermoform paddles. In the past, Joola has had an issue with grit wearing off or having inconsistent placement; It seems this has changed with this paddle. You will find the 14 mm offers more power and therefore better if you’re a singles player. If you prefer the 16mm and want added power, consider adding lead tape.

The CAS (carbon abrasion surface) model within the Ben Johnson Hyperion series, showcases a carbon fiber face layer on top of a fiberglass layer to add more pop. The surface grit is akin to a sandpaper feel. Unfortunately, the grit tends to wear off with use. The CFS models tend to wear better, as the grit is built into the surface material. The polymer honeycomb cells are larger than the CFS models, for a more responsive feel. The CAS model is much less head heavy than the CFS. The paddle is easy to maneuver while providing ample control. If you prefer a strong power paddle and don’t mind the head weight, the CFS may be a better option for you. With a long handle, the CAS is excellent for two handed shots.

To improve your shot, the Joola Essentials Paddle is a terrific choice for players. Its heavier and bigger face provides more power and a sizable sweet spot. This paddle feels great in the hand and appears quite premium for a reasonably priced alternative.
